Water Service Line Material Identification
Due to EPA revisions of the lead and copper rule, we are required to perform an inventory of service line materials. Please complete the below form after examining the water supply pipe between the water meter and your home as follows: 1. Locate your drinking water line where it enters the home. 2. Determine if the pipe is plastic or metal by looking at it or tapping it. 3. If the pipe if metal, use a refrigerator magnet to check if it’s magnetic. If a magnet sticks, the pipe is galvanized iron or steel. 4. If it’s NOT magnetic, use a coin to gently scratch the pipe. If it scratches very easily and turns a shiny silver color, it’s lead. If the pipe doesn’t scratch easily, has a copper color, and is not magnetic, it’s made of copper. Call 215-679-5194, ext. 1, with any questions or concerns.
